I was very big into playing with dolls when I was younger—American Girl Dolls, Groovy Girls, Barbie’s, you name it—but Polly Pocket was especially high on the totem pole. I loved how easy they were to carry wherever I went, and the endless miniature accessories and swappable clothing available ensured I never got bored. Therefore, when I heard trendy fashion brand Cider was releasing a Polly Pocket collection, I jumped at the chance to try out some pieces.
The collection is in partnership with Mattel (which is rumored to be releasing a Polly Pocket movie sometime in the future), and is in celebration of Polly Pocket’s 35th anniversary. The line is brimming with brightly colored, girly pieces that are nostalgic of the ones I used to put on my dolls—bubble gum pinks, baby blues and butter yellows are some of the colorways.
While it’s a very youthful-looking collection of tops, tanks, dresses, jumpsuits and skirts, I was actually surprised by how wearable the pieces I selected were. Basically, I didn’t feel like someone in their late 20s cosplaying as a teenager—I’d definitely sport these items when I feel like wearing something bold or playful.
I normally stay away from overalls (as a petite shopper, I find a lot of them simply don’t look right on me) but the heart-shaped print on this pair really stole my attention. I liked how you could easily adjust the straps to your preferred level with a chain of buttons, and the wide pant leg actually looked pretty flattering, which is unusual for my 5′ 3″ stature.
But what I liked even more was this polished pink set with an adorable bow in the back. An outfit like this is typically out of my comfort range, but I honestly was surprised by how confident it made me feel as soon as I slipped into the two pieces. The shorts are incredibly comfortable, and I could totally see them working with other pieces in the collection (or even shirts I already own).
Perhaps the most Polly Pocket-coded item I tried, this little white tank was oh so cute to wear. The material resembles that of a terry cloth robe, which means it feels super soft against the skin and isn’t very see-through. I paired it with the shorts from the pink set and immediately fell in love with the duo.
There are plenty of other fun pieces from the Cider x Polly Pocket collection to shop (honestly kicking myself I didn’t get more!) See some of my other favorites down below. All styles run in sizes XS-4XL.
