When it comes to shoes, I am a sneakers and boots girl through and through. But, as much as I love a stylish and chic pair of boots, I refuse to wear anything that won’t provide comfort and support to my high arches — after all, I live in a city and walk a ton. If you’re like me and only want the most comfortable boots, you’re in the right place.

I scoured my closet — plus my lengthy shopping wishlist — for the most comfortable boots for women. From a pair of cowboy boots that I have literally owned for over 20 years and still love dearly to rainboots that are actually cute and comfortable enough to walk for miles, here are the most comfortable boots ever

What to Look for in Comfortable Boots, According to Podiatrists

No matter what the shoe style is, if you’re shopping for comfort, Dr. Elizabeth Daughtry, DPM, says adequate arch support, stability, and good shock absorption are important factors to consider. “A deep, supportive heel cup along with a reasonable heel height are also important for stability,” she notes. Dr. Daughtry also recommends looking at the material and choosing an option that most suits your needs and comfort level, as well as the activity that you plan to perform in the boot.

Whether you’re trying on in-store or at home, Dr. Daughtry says it’s best to try on a pair of boots with the socks you plan to wear with them, so that you can get a better idea of the fit. She also recommends trying them on later in the day since feet can swell by the end of the day.

What to Avoid in Boots if You’re Looking for Comfort, According to Podiatrists

If you’re shopping with comfort in mind, Dr. Daughtry says to avoid ill-fitting boots and look for options that don’t press on bony portions of the ankle joint. “They should offer enough room in the toe box to allow for your toes to move freely,” she adds.

To get the best idea of comfort, Dr. Daughtry says to always check the customer reviews to get an idea of how they fit and the comfort they provide a variety of foot shapes and sizes. She also recommends avoiding pointed-toe silhouettes and boots with tall heel heights over 1.5 inches (unless accompanied by a platform sole) to ensure long-lasting comfort.
