Jax Taylor & Brittany Cartwright’s Views on Prenups Haven’t Aged Well Amid Their Divorce

Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright were together for nine years, having met on the set of Vandpump Rules. They got married in 2019 and amid the news they’ve officially filed for divorce, their views on prenups have not aged well.

Jax and Brittany’s marriage was well-documented on the hit Bravo reality TV series. They welcomed their first child, son Cruz, in April 2021. “I’ve never in my life thought it was going to be like this,” Jax wrote on Instagram. “It’s 10,000 times better. Dad mode just kicks in. I don’t think I have ever been as happy as I am right now, everything else in life seems so insignificant now. I am crying just writing this message.”

It wouldn’t last, however, and in August 2024, the details of their divorce have been laid bare, so of course, we’re left wondering…

Did Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright have a prenup?

In 2019, they told Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens that they weren’t planning on signing a prenup in a quite… brash line of questioning. She simply answered, “No.” When Cohen pressed, “Is that a good idea?” Brittany replied, “I mean we talked about it, but I don’t think we want to,” and then moved on to the next question. Seemingly a bit of a sore point, no?

We Finally Know If Vanderpump's Jax Taylor Cheated On Brittany Cartwright

In court documents obtained by Us Weekly, their official date of separation was January 24, 2024, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their split. Brittany is seeking primary custody of their son, Cruz, with visitation for Jax. She has also requested no spousal support for either of them.

When news of their split first broke, some fans accused the former couple of breaking up as a kind of publicity stunt to promote their new show, The Valley. But Jax himself told the network that’s simply not true. “The most important thing is I don’t want people thinking this is a publicity stunt,” Jax told The Daily Dish. “I think when people start watching this show, and they understand that we started filming this almost a year ago, they’ll know that this kind of stuff has been happening with my wife and I—I would never use my family as a publicity stunt.”

In an interview with Page Six, Brittany gave her side of the story. “We’ve been together nine years, and people stop appreciating and take you for granted after some time — and that should never happen in a marriage,” she said. “So that’s what I’m trying to get back,” she continued, “and if it doesn’t come back, then we won’t get back together.”
