Alex Consani is hitting every benchmark on the road to Next Big Thing. Earlier this week, the British Fashion Council announced its nominations for the 2024 Fashion Award, and the 21-year-old model earned a nomination for their Model of the Year category. It’s a historic nomination since it made her the first trans woman ever to be nominated in the category. She’s been tearing crazy lately, so who’s shocked?
Consani is one of the buzziest new models in the game right now. Not only is she booking plenty of runway shows, walking in Mugler, Marc Jacobs, Thom Browne, and more, she’s also kind of a TikTok star. Not that she posts as much as she used to, but she’s made waves for her sense of humor, calling the solar eclipse the summer solstice, the way she says “David Yurman,” and her backstage shenanigans. She was also one of the featured hot internet girls in Charli xcx’s music video for “360,” along with Rachel Sennott, Julia Fox, Gabbriette, Emma Chamberlain, Blizzy McGuire, and more.
Consani is the first trans woman to be nominated for the award, but she’s the second trans person overall to earn a nomination. Kai Isaiah Jamal, who doesn’t identify with any specific gender labels and uses they/them pronouns received a nomination in 2023. In the BFC’s press statement announcing the nominations two days ago, they stated that the Model of the Year category “recognizes the global impact of a model who, over the last 12 months, has dominated the industry, with an influence that transcends the catwalk.”
