August is the last full month of summer, which means fall (and cooler temperatures) are upon us. If this has you itching to go through your closet and refresh your wardrobe for the autumn season, you’re not alone. This is one of my favorite months to go shopping for cozy pieces, like a new pullover sweater that I know I’ll live in and a fresh pair of denim jeans for those chilly days. And, right now, the Target Denim Take Back Event makes that even easier.
From now through August 10, 2024, Target Circle members can get 20 percent off denim apparel when they recycle their old denim items from any brand. The Target Denim Take Back Event is one of the best ways to get rid of items that no longer fit or have holes in them in a responsible (and rewarding) way. Through the program, Target partners with organizations to recycle denim items into new products, including housing insulation. With so much fashion waste out there, this is a great way to treat your wardrobe to a refresh and give garments a whole new life.
What Is the Target Denim Take Back Event?
Target Denim Take Back is a savings event held by Target from August 4 through August 10, 2024. It’s an incentivizing program that encourages Target customers to responsibly recycle old denim garments and receive a 20 percent off coupon for new denim items, including jeans, jackets, shirts, hats, and more.
This event is an in-store-only event, and from now through August 10, stores will have drop-off boxes conveniently located near the Guest Services center. There is a donation limit of five items per household so keep that in mind when participating.
What Is Recycled Denim Used For?
In an effort to support a more sustainable fashion industry, Target partners with organizations to transform denim garment donations into new products. One example of this is housing insulation, which is a popular use of recycled denim (and recycling efforts other brands like Madewell also contribute to). Recycled denim can also be repurposed into more garments and used to things like bags, clothing, and more.
How to Get a Target Discount on Denim
Once you donate your denim at a Target store, scan the signs near the drop-off boxes to receive your bonus straight to your account. The bonus is limited to one coupon per Target Circle membership and is only valid during the event. However, you can use the coupon online, so if you don’t feel like shopping after donating or your local Target store doesn’t have what you’re looking for, you won’t miss out on the savings.
If you need some ideas, here are some of the jeans and denim items I’m currently eyeing at Target.
The Best Jeans and Denim at Target
-
Universal Thread High-Rise Flare Jeans
Universal Thread High-Rise Flare JeansOn Sale 39% offBaggy and flare jeans are in style for the season, but if you aren’t quite ready to take the full plunge, I love the Universal Thread High-Rise Flare Jeans as a way to dip your toes into the trend. The high-rise jeans come in five different washes, three lengths, and and inclusive size range and feature a cotton blend material with a little bit of stretch for added flexibility. They’re definitely a pair you’ll want in several colors. -
Wild Fable Long Sleeve Oversized Structured Denim Shirt
Wild Fable Long Sleeve Oversized Structured Denim ShirtI love the utility shirt trend and wear one at least once a week. The Wild Fable Long Sleeve Oversized Structured Denim Shirt is a fun way to try the trend because it also leans into the dark denim trend. You can wear it buttoned-up as an oversized shirt, or open (my personal preference) in lieu of a lightweight jacket. This shirt is also made from 100 percent cotton, so it has that classic denim structure to it that keeps its shape and gets better with every wear. -
Levi’s Mid-Rise ’94 Baggy Straight Jeans
Levi’s Mid-Rise ’94 Baggy Straight JeansICYMI: Levi’s has a Target collection, and it’s so good. The Levi’s Mid-Rise ’94 Baggy Straight Jeans are kind of a cross between the 501 and rib cage silhouettes. They feature a mid-rise fit with wider leg holes for a baggier look. You can find them in several classic washes — including ultra-light wash for a more vintage-looking feel — and they’re budget-friendly, which is a win for Levi’s. -
Universal Thread Denim Trench Coat
Universal Thread Denim Trench CoatHow amazing is this Universal Thread Denim Trench Coat?! The trench is a refreshing twist on a classic denim jacket and a great choice for fall weather. I love that it has a light wash, so you can easily wear it with darker denim, and is constructed from a soft and flexible cotton blend, so it drapes well without feeling super stiff (a must in trench coats). -
Universal Thread Long Sleeve Denim Maxi Dress
Universal Thread Long Sleeve Denim Maxi DressThe Universal Thread Long Sleeve Denim Maxi Dress is another denim piece I’m eyeing for fall — and it’s a perfect alternative to the long denim skirt trend. This dress is made from mostly cotton with a little bit of stretch for added flexibility and is the best transitional piece for the season. -
Universal Thread Long Sleeve Two Tone Oversized Boyfriend Denim Shirt
Universal Thread Long Sleeve Two Tone Oversized Boyfriend Denim ShirtThe Universal Thread Long Sleeve Two Tone Oversized Boyfriend Denim Shirt (and the matching skirt) is one of those Target pieces that will make you do a double take — because it seriously looks like the best vintage find. The shirt is constructed from a soft cotton blend, so it’s flexible and comfortable but still has some excellent structure for those button shirt vibes. -
Universal Thread Denim Maxi Skirt
Universal Thread Denim Maxi SkirtIf you want to try the denim maxi skirt trend but don’t want to splurge on a new style, the Universal Thread Denim Maxi Skirt is a great choice. This under $40 skirt comes in four washes and features a high-rise fit with a front slit for better movement and comfort. It’s also made from 99 percent cotton with 1 percent spandex, so it has that classic cotton denim structure with a little bit of flexibility.
